The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College presents their last Family Saturday program on April 22. The programs include a hands-on art activity following a brief tour of one of the exhibitions, with all materials provided. The free programs run from 2:00 to 3:30 PM, and are suitable for children age 5 and older along with their adult companions.

Reservations are highly encouraged as space is limited and the programs are very popular. You may sign up for each program up to one week in advance.

For additional information and reservations, or to be added to our Family Saturday e-mail list, please call the Tang’s Visitor Service Desk at 518-580-8080.

April 22:  Build a Better World
We will look at Nick Cave’s Soundsuit in If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day: Collections of Claude Simard.  Cave’s sculpture includes many small globes among other objects. Then each participant will create a 3-D sculptural collage using world maps as our building material.  We will have some posterboard, tape, and glue for bases and connections, but the main art supplies will be a whole variety of old and new world maps, ready to cut and construct.
About the Tang Teaching Museum

The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College is a pioneer of interdisciplinary exploration and learning. A cultural anchor of New York’s Capital Region, the institution’s approach has become a model for university art museums across the country—with exhibition programs and series that bring together the visual and performing arts with fields of study as disparate as history, astronomy, and physics. The Tang has one of the most rigorous faculty-engagement initiatives in the nation, the Mellon Seminar, and robust publication and touring exhibition initiatives that extend the institution’s reach far beyond its walls. The Tang Teaching Museum’s building, designed by architect Antoine Predock, serves as a visual metaphor for the convergence of ideas and exchange the institution catalyzes.
