Enjoy Troy, NY Sundays with funky Troy Flea
July 9 @ 10:00 am - September 24 @ 3:00 pm
After an incredible urban revitalization that has caught the attention of the New York Times and New York Daily News, Troy, New York has become one of the hippest downtowns to visit in upstate New York.
Sundays are ideal for exploring the small city’s picturesque 19th century architecture, which has featured in several major Hollywood movies, and is today alive with independent restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Immediately following the city-sponsored Yoga in the Park (in Riverfront Park along the Hudson River), visitors can hunt for vintage and upcycled treasures at Troy Flea every 2nd and 4th Sunday through September from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Acclaimed as Metroland’s “Best Flea Market” in its 2015 “Best Of” issue, Troy Flea provides a funky low-key scene that’s perfect for a “Sunday Funday” of urban exploration.
“New people are hearing about all the great things happening in Troy every day, and Troy Flea is another great reason to come enjoy Troy on Sundays,” said Kristin Jackson, Troy Flea manager. “We always love to hear when people come for Yoga in the Park, browse the flea and stay for brunch and window shopping.”
About 30 vendors sell their wares at the flea. There are a number of new vintage and upcycle vendors, natural remedy teas and new mixed textile artists. Other items include quality vintage clothes, new and reclaimed furniture, jewelry, old comic books, posters, Pyrex glassware, cast iron pans, housewares, and old storage containers.
Under Jackson’s management, Troy Flea is selective about its vendors to ensure quality, diversity and attractive pricing.
“Troy Flea puts the focus on fun, kitschy, beautiful, eclectic and weird things,” Jackson said.
“Because our downtown is so walkable, one of the best things you can do in Troy is walk around and check out what’s going on,” Jackson said. “We like to think of the flea as the first or second stop on your Sunday excursions.”
HOURS / RAIN CANCELLATION
Troy Flea is held rain or shine on the second and fourth Sunday of every month, from June through September. Remaining dates are: July 9, July 23, Aug. 13, July 27, Sept. 10 and Sept. 24.
Marketgoers are asked to check the Troy Flea website or Facebook page for announcements about storm cancellations.
The cost per booth space is $50 for an individual Sunday, with price reductions offered to those who commit to more than four Sundays. These fees help pay for group advertising and promotional materials for the market. The flea will have open enrollment throughout the season until the space is filled.
Musicians and entertainers interested in performing during the flea are also invited to contact the organizers.
